Enable internet connectivity with VPN

9. September 2008 by Juliën Hanssens 0 Comments

Recently we deployed our corporate VPN server for our colleagues. The brief tutorial on how-to-connect was willingly followed and soon everyone had access. However, it didn’t take very long for the complaints to start raining in when the co-workers realized there was no more internet activity possible once connected to the VPN.

Hereby a tip on how to connect to your VPN server without losing your precious internet – and other regular network - connectivity.

  1. Go to: Control Panel > Network Connections
  2. Right click and open the properties of the VPN connection
  3. Disable the Use default gateway on remote network option on the TCP/IPv4 settings

The image below illustrates the procedure:

After disabling this feature - and reconnecting, if applicable - both the VPN server as well as your regular network features will be available.
