A bit of history here. Belgians are the southern neighbours of the Dutch. And ever since the Belgian Revolution approx. 1830 AD led them to a sovereign state, we – as in “we” being the Dutch – take every opportunity we get on making fun of them. But on a cultural level, the Belgians are perhaps even more sophisticated than the Dutch.

One great example is the new Azure User Group Belgium user driven community that was brought to my attention.

In my opinion it’s a great initiative! But here is the payback for all those jokes: AZUG.BE is a Belgian user group. And Belgian only! Let’s hope that if we ask nicely the initiators will think about reforming the target community to span the  Benelux instead of “Belgium-only”. Just think of the audience that will be broadened immensely (hint!). And in return we will try to take it easy on the jokes.
